Department of Civil Engineering has conducted guest lecture on ‘Building Construction Materials and Environmental Technology’ by Dr. C.L.Verma

Dr. C.L.Verma graduated and post graduated from IIT Kanpur and IIT Bombay, in 1967 and 1969, respectively. He was awarded Ph.D degree from the University of Roorkee (now IIT Roorkee), Roorkee in 1986. He possesses teaching and research experience of more than 35 years till his retirement from the Central Building Research Institute, Roorkee in October, 2004. Post retirement, Dr. C.L.Verma has been associated with 3 Engineering institutes as Director and one institute as Prof. & Head of Chemical as well as Civil Engineering departments. Dr. Verma has published over 100 research and technical papers, and has a host of national and international awards to his credit. Dr. Verma has been continuing as Chairman of the National Committee on ‘Building Lime and Gypsum Products’ for the last 25 years.

He explained to the students about new construction materials, new technologies used in making composites, substitutes of wood, use of waste products of various industries in concrete making either directly or by mixing to form composites.

He told us about the machines made by CRRI Roorkee to develop entrepreneurship in the country. As these machines cost close to 1-2 Lakhs and could manage to make good quality compressed bricks using several waste composites like fly-ash, surkhi, rice husk and other pozzolanic materials.

Later on Civil Engineering Students put forward their queries, which were appreciably answered by Dr. Verma.

We heartily thank Dr. Verma for sparing his valuable time for us.
