Expert Talk on “Earthquake Resistance Design of Structures” By Dr. Shilpa Pal

Department of Civil Engineering organized an Expert Lecture by Dr. Shilpa Pal for 3rd and 4th year B.Tech. students on 29th March for ‘Earthquake Resistance Design of Structures’. Dr. Shilpa Pal is M.Tech.(Gold Medalist) in Structural Engineering from Punjab University, Chandigarh and Ph.D. in Earthquake Engineering from IIT Roorkee on “Effect of Foundation and Dam Discontinuities on the Response of Concrete Gravity Dam”.

Dr. Shilpa gave a vivid description of the earthquake effects in structures and the extent of damage the earthquakes can cause citing examples from some recent earthquakes globally. She highlighted various precautions and codal provisions that have been recently adopted for safeguarding structures against such damages.

The lecture was found very informative and meaningful by faculty members and students.
